What is a default strategy?
A default strategy is the strategy that gets automatically assigned to new listings as they sync from your sales channel. Every listing in Repricing.app must have a strategy, and the default strategy ensures new products start with one right away.
How default strategies work
When you connect a sales channel and enable a region, you set a default strategy for that region. Any listings that sync into Repricing.app from that region automatically get the default strategy assigned. This means new products start repricing right away without any manual work.
If you add products to your catalog regularly, the default strategy is what keeps things running smoothly. Every new listing gets assigned the default, so you don't need to manually assign strategies to each one.
Setting a default strategy
- Go to Strategies in the sidebar.
- Find the strategy you want to make the default.
- In the Actions column on the right side of the table, click SET DEFAULT.
The strategy is now marked with a "Default" badge. Only one strategy can be the default per region at a time. Setting a new default for that region automatically removes the default status from the previous one.
Important things to know
- The default only applies to new listings. Existing listings already in your account aren't affected when you change the default strategy. To apply a strategy to existing listings, use the bulk assignment feature.
- Changing the default. Switching the default strategy doesn't affect listings that were already assigned under the previous default. It only changes what happens to future new listings.
- Every region needs a default. Since all listings require a strategy, each enabled region should have a default strategy configured. This ensures new listings always have a strategy assigned when they sync in.
A good workflow for the default
A common approach is to create a moderately conservative strategy (something that competes for the Buy Box but with solid safety nets and a healthy price floor) and set that as your default. New listings start repricing automatically with sensible settings. Then, as you review your catalog, you can move high-volume or special products to more tailored strategies using strategy assignments.
For storefront channels, a Profit Margin strategy with a comfortable margin percentage makes a great default, since every new product will immediately be priced to hit your target profitability.
